This map shows the general layout of the Main Drainage System. The main trunk sewer which ran from Clydach in the north down to the sea at the Mumbles Head outfall intercepted many of the older tributary sewers. Much of the system was gravity operated. The contract information illustrates the piecemeal way in which the scheme was built. A great deal of the work was completed by employing jobless local men.
