| Increasing popularity led to continued problems for access to
the beach. This view shows the situation by c.1915, people accumulate for the Mumbles
train and even that line is separated from the Slip by two busy railway lines. Accidents
and delays were frequent. The solution was to build an access bridge which transported
people over the road and all the railway lines and land them as close to the Slip as
possible. This photograph was taken from the bridge that was eventually built in 1915. The
Borough Engineer called it 'the Slip
Bridge', probably an acknowledgement of why it was built there in the first place! |
