The historic fountain that was destroyed by redevelopment at St Helen's Recreation Ground
The following photographs are the 'missing' pictures that are the only documentation of the destruction of the fountain. No one is prepared to acknowledge who is responsible for the destruction. However the land is maintained by the City and County of Swansea. In Swansea heritage is only heritage if it is in the right place for the Council. If it is in an inconvenient location it becomes a 'structure' to be disposed of. Local residents have interpreted this destruction as preparation for private sector redevelopment as part of the Swansea Bay Strategy.

End
of the road for the Slip Bridge?
Our
Slip Bridge has now been stuck in a strange place on the promenade, but
the Slip remains one of the most significant parts of the beach.
We can only hope that the repairs and redevelopments are sensitive
and careful. More
